The DURIS E 5 LED is designed for the fast growing LED retrofit market, delivering high efficiency, uniform distribution of light and natural color rendering.
Some great news in time for Lightfair is that the E series of the DURIS product family is moving into the next generation. Like the other DURIS E 5 products, the new DURIS E 5 (GW JDSMS1.EC) is a mid-power LED which rejuvenates the OSRAM portfolio in this output range. Compared with the predecessor version (LCW / LUW JDSI.EC), it offers a greatly improved price/performance ratio and is now available in high CRI option of greater than 90 (typically 95). It therefore complements the existing LED versions which have a color rendering index greater than 70 and greater than 80.
With the improved thermal resistance of 25 K/W, the new DURIS E 5 version does not get as hot making it more efficient. Only small heat sinks are needed to cool the LED, which in turn makes thermal management much simpler. The lower typical forward voltage of only 3.1 V is yet another factor in favor of greater efficiency, which is now 120 lm/W in the new E 5.
For the residential sector, the warm white colors of 2700 and 3000 K are ideal for retrofits as they deliver precisely the same color of light as a traditional light bulb.
Beyond standard retrofits, DURIS E 5 is also a great solution for panel lights and edge lighting thanks to its small package size of 5.6 x 3 mm and the fact that they can be arranged in tight clusters. With a beam angle of 120 degrees, the DURIS E 5 delivers a uniform appearance in a lamp without unwanted shadows or visible points of light.
