Super small RGB LED for more pixels and greater resolution
Higher resolutions with more and more pixels call for smaller and smaller LEDs. The new Multi CHIPLED LRTB R48G – the “baby sister” of the larger tried and tested Multi CHIPLED – fits perfectly with this trend. It measures only 1 mm x 1 mm and extends the OSRAM Opto Semiconductors LED portfolio for full-color video walls. This RGB component offers an impressive combination of price, performance and quality.
Full HD (HDTV) and 3D have not yet been introduced throughout the country, and now yet another standard has appeared on the horizon: Ultra HD. It offers four times the number of pixels as full HD and also goes by the name of 4K. A resolution of 3840 x 2160 or 4096 × 2304 pixels, more than 8 million in all, produces a sharper picture, even when viewed close up. This high resolution is of enormous benefit mainly for screen diagonals of 200 inches and more, which are used as full-color LED video displays at exhibitions, events, shopping malls and educational establishments, to name a few.
The high pixel density and the associated small pixel spacings call for suitably small LED packages. This is where the new and extremely small RGB LED Multi CHIPLED really shows its strengths. If has all the benefits of its big sister, which measures 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm, but at only 1 mm x 1 mm is considerably smaller. At 250 mcd at the white point and a binning current of 5 mA it is exceptionally bright and efficient. The substrate is overprinted in black so there are hardly any reflections from the ambient light, and a particularly high contrast is achieved.
